Mercer 2016-17 DPI Report Card Score – 61.9 Meets Few Expectations

The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction just announced the School Report Card scores for the 2016-17 school year.  The Mercer score puts the school in the bottom 20 of all of the state’s 422 school districts.

Here's how Mercer compares to other area schools:

Dear Mercer Community,

The time has come to demand the removal of the Mercer District Administrator. Year after year we have seen the results of his tenure including below state average ACT scores, falling state report card numbers, and a culture which breeds contempt for any who raise questions about the district. Permanent academic and behavioral damage is being done to the students of Mercer School. While it is too late for some of the older students, we must do everything possible to ensure that younger students have the chance to attain the academic success necessary to succeed in the modern world.
The District Administrator has been derelict in his duty to lead the school as the chief academic leader. He refuses to observe classroom teachers, instead opting to have unqualified individuals observe teachers and students for state required reports. He removes qualified teachers from the classroom and replaces them with friends who have no education qualifications to do the job. Finally, he regularly leaves the building unattended while still getting paid his fulltime salary and benefits.
The Mercer Community deserves better from their school. The job of District Administrator is a serious position that demands high character and dedication. It is time to give the children of Mercer the leader they need. Please come and demand answers at the school board meeting this Monday, November 27th. Only together can we change this school for the better.

Do you know when this information was made available to the school? If it was available before the last board meeting, like I think it was, then Deanna was completely out of line when she was miffed at someone stating that the school is failing.

So tell us Deanna, how does "Meets few expectations" mean "excellence" to you?

A very astute observation. The School Report Card score was given to the school on Oct. 17, but not made public until Nov. 21. So Torkelson, Pierpont, Pierce and Brandt most likely knew the score when they made their disparaging remarks and launched an attack on well-meaning Mercer citizens.

Don’t Torkelson and Pierpont realize that it’s over for them and the other school board stooges. Instead of persisting in their harassment of Christa Reinert they should be planning their own defense for what is coming – unauthorized pay, misuse of Fund 80 money and on and on.

You got that right. We noticed that on the agenda for this coming Monday’s SB meeting “Board Member Violation of Board Policies”. People need to show up and let these misfits know that they can’t keep wasting our school tax dollars.

If you go to Monday night’s school board meeting be sure to check your tires upon leaving. Someone put a box cutter blade in a tire of a school board/administration critic. It could have caused a serious accident. The sheriff’s office is investigating.

Good advice. We hope no one gives out any of those 450 names of people who voted to clean up the Mercer school mess because they could be threatened with the loss of business or a job, punctured tires, mailing boxes destroyed all of which has happened.

Remember the district administrator's plan to run the referendum during the February special election date. This date is important because according to his "thesis," most of you won't be around to vote. In order to make this special election date happen, the board has to vote on it by mid-December. We all need to stay vigilant at the board meeting to see if this election is going to take place. As this is not on the current board meeting agenda, they would need to call a special board meeting sometime before mid-December to approve the referendum.

Pierce and Brandt should be kicked off the school board for violating school policy which prohibits “sexual or other forms of offensive speech and conduct… which is intolerable in an environment in which students and staff members of this District function.”

Hey, did you realize that you, too, can work for Mercer School-- In China?! Apparently Mercer School is running a side business in China? This is available for anyone who wants to apply on WECAN (the site that educators in the state of Wisconsin use to apply for jobs). How do you think this is being funded? Was this ever voted on by the school board? Good luck on your application and remember to dress for success in your interview! It's the Tiger Way! (Hopefully you can time-travel because the job apparently already started in August).

Wait a second.... you are telling me that the district is begging for more money from the taxpayers while at the same time hiring teachers to work for the district admins side business? Folks, this is unreal. As a community member who attends all school board meetings, this has never been discussed. These people need to be removed immediately. This sure smells illegal!

I wonder how Torkelson is benefiting from this? I also wonder how he is benefiting from the board giving him the ability to sell school property for a value of up to $20,000.

NO ONE PERSON SHOULD HAVE THIS ABILITY. Just check with other schools, you'll see.
