AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE EVERY MERCER RESIDENT NEEDS TO READ

The following comment was posted on Mercer School Facts by a very conscientious and dedicated Mercer School Board member. We were concerned that this important message would not get the attention it deserved buried among the other comments. So, the editors decided to post it as a blog. It tells of the behind-the-scenes conniving by a desperate administrator and the three board members he controls. The message is an extremely important one which every Mercer voter needs to know – of a totally dysfunctional three-member majority of a board and their “boss”, the administrator, who is desperately trying to hold on to his job amid documented mismanagement, misspending and the failure to provide the quality education Mercer children deserve.

Another beautiful day in Mercer! So today I sent a request to Karl Anderson, to have three items placed on the agenda for Monday’s meeting since he is the acting president of the Board. It was communicated back by Karl through Erik Torkelson he was denying two of the items I asked to discuss at Monday's meeting. So, in the meantime I enjoyed the beautiful sunny day outside with my dogs refinishing an antique bed and all of a sudden my Mercer School email notification chimes that "I've got Mail"! So, I leave the peaceful productive sunny refinishing job and go in to check email and it's from Deanna Pierpont and it's titled "Brandt resignation not given to the clerk”, so I read on! And low and behold, it would appear that Brandt has rescinded his board resignation as his original letter was not delivered to the clerk, Deanna continues to say the Brandt will set the Agenda with Mr. Torkelson for the March and April meetings (even though Brandt sent an email to the whole board yesterday saying he would not attend Monday because of his move). In conclusion, Deanna states that when Brandt is ready to resign he will give a letter to the clerk!! HHHMMMMMMMMMM!! OK, so in February Karl and I show up to conduct important school business and with zero notification that they would not attend, Micki, Deanna and Noel were not there. Therefore, no quorum and therefore zero business conducted!! The really important issue was that our Auditor, Mr. Trautman with Schenck S.C. was there to give a presentation to the board about our audit and items that need attention, yet the majority of the board chose not to attend. This was rescheduled from the bad weather in January so it was clear to the entire board the auditor would attend! Then Brandt's letter of Resignation was given to Karl during the meeting, Karl read it and then presided over the "Non-quorum Meeting". (following the meeting Micki's truck was running behind her RE building and Deanna attended the basketball game)! I couldn't be more distraught by the unprofessional behavior of the majority of the board and the administrator! But my critics have the nerve to make false statements of my behavior! So, the big question for me is WHY such odd behavior? I wrote a lengthy, factual (I have all the documents to support my claims) candidate statement that will shed some light on my theory of WHY there is such desperate behavior by the administrator and the majority of the board. I would ask all of you to read the Iron County Miner March 28 and stay tuned for more to come. I am currently awaiting a response to my 4th open record request that Erik Torkelson told me I had to file for school information. And to the pathetically desperate Mercer resident who has sent in lying, defaming, letters to the editor - I feel sorry for you!! And by the way I was able to enjoy the rest of my wonderful sunny day outside with my dogs! Mercer is a wonderful place to live, you just have to look past the trash! I really appreciate all the support and I hope that each and every one of you convince your neighbors, friends and family to vote for me, Christa Reinert, and Jim Hannemann who will join Karl for a majority on the board. Creating real change!! Thank you all!!!

  1. Such insane behavior. Since when does an administrator, an employee of the school board, decide what’s on the board’s agenda? This guy’s arrogance is unbelievable. And why is Pierpont speaking for Brandt? Doesn’t he have a voice of his own? The voters MUST clean up this mess by voting for Christa Reinert and Jim Hannemann with the hope that Torkelson will be fired and we can return of normalcy.

  2. Doesn’t the person who wrote in his Letter to the Editor that Christa’s behavior at school board meetings was “negative, disruptive, antagonistic, bullying” realize that there are recordings of those meeting. Several people have recorded them. I understand that one person who has been paid by a government agency to record them has recordings for every meeting going back several years.

  3. We know that Torkelson’s mother-in-law. Kelly “50 Shades” must support him and that Deneise Thompson also must because Torkelson gave her daughter-in-law a nice paying job, but what about the others? What’s it’s worth to fake a photo of alleged documents that no one ever received, or about the real cost when a student transfer out of the district, or about a board member’s “disruptive conduct” which never happened?

  4. Do these people derive pleasure out of seeing the kids not getting the education they need while the taxpayers are being ripped off? What motivates such dishonesty? The rewards must be good.

  5. It’s definitely time for Torkelson to go. But don’t expect his two hand-picked candidates Davis and Chaney to do anything about it.

  6. Christa, you have my sympathies and my vote.

All I can say is that Torkelson is one of the most twisted, vindictive people I ever had the misfortune to encounter. I'm no doctor but this fits him to a "T". It's Narcissistic Personality Disorder, IMO.

  8. It is essential that everyone vote in the April election. Erik is finally vulnerable. Erik has continuously allowed cheating to take place on state exams and attendance counts for years. As a former employee and current school administrator, I can tell you that these practices are illegal. Please get out to vote. This is your one chance to remove the corrupt system currently in place.

  9. Everyone needs to see the posters on display on hwy 51! Totally pathetic! These two candidates need to propose actual board policy and ideas to improve our school instead of a photo op! Davis looks like he's on "Farmers Only.Com" and Chaney's in an Iron County Line Up! I haven't laughed this hard in awhile! And after what Josh said u all need to vote for Jim and Christa to confront the current administration! Time to clean up this school!

  10. Christa is accurate about it being a beautiful environment, if you can look past the trash. Unfortunately there is so much trash.

  12. So for the second month in a row the Mercer School Board of Education was unable to conduct it's monthly meeting due to a lack of a quorum. For the second month in a row the board president, treasurer and clerk did not show up for the meeting. I did plan to see the meeting through as we did in February, but changed my mind when informed by a knowledgeable Vic Ouimette that Robert's Rules of Order would require to acknowledge we did not have a quorum, announce the next regularly scheduled meeting and adjourn. That is the best course of action so as to avoid any possible implication that we were attempting to conduct business. It was my full intention, during my "board report" to provide the audience with a view of what transparency looks like. I intended to disclose to the public that earlier in the day I had self reported to the Iron County District Attorney and Iron County Sheriff's Dept. that an illegal meeting of the board had taken place. This was in the form of a walking quorum via email transmission. The email string started with Noel Brandt emailing the entire board that he would be reviewing and approving the agenda for the March meeting. He claimed that he had this right because he was still the board president as no action had been taken to accept his resignation at the February meeting. I responded to Noel's email (copying the entire board with a cautionary notation of "No Reply Necessary"). In my email I informed Noel that the district was in receipt of his letter of resignation and with the lack of a quorum at the Feb. meeting, I had given it to Erik Torkelson to be placed in the school safe until action could be taken on it. I pointed out that per WI. Statute 17.01 (13), the resignation was effective on the date indicated on the letter, which was February 25, 2019. Later that same day, the entire board received an email from Deanna Pierpont saying that "president Brandt withdrew his resignation". At this point, if I was to believe that Noel was actually withdrawing his resignation, we now had a quorum of board members conversing on a given topic that definitely has a direct impact on the district. This constituted an illegal meeting of the board in the form of a walking quorum. I refuse to be part of an illegal meeting and actually called the District Attorney's office on Friday, March 22, to report this occurrence. I was unable to talk with the DA but made an appointment to talk with him on Monday, which I did. I forwarded the entire email string to the Iron County Sheriff's dept. per the DA's request. I felt it important for the public to know this occurred. I know that this blog is read by many in the community, both supporters and detractors of mine, so I find that it is a fine means of getting that information out to the public. You have read it for yourself, no spin, just the facts. I trust you will see what is happening here. I fully expect to be scolded by the school board attorney for my actions and be scorned by the majority of the board as well. This is of no concern to me, I've done what is right under the circumstances.
