Mercer’s Elections

Mercer voters will need to wait until Monday before knowing if wise or foolish choices were made in the April 7 election.

Regarding the Mercer School Board election, the wise choices would be the election of Sue Loth, Jeff Nehring and Henry Joustra.  The foolish choices would be Deanna Pierpont and Brian Baltz.

With regard to the election of Mercer Town Board of Supervisors, the wise choices would be Vic Ouimette and David McNutt, both write-in candidates.  The other candidates, incumbent Michael Lambert and write-ins Gordon Kohegyi and Adam Kussard, would be foolish choices.

Ordinarily voters would have known the outcome of the April 7 elections that same evening.  Because of wrangling over open poll and absentee ballot voting, the courts ordered that the election results cannot be tallied until after all absentee ballots are received, which it arbitrarily said would be this coming Monday.

Returning Pierpont to the Mercer School Board (she had been a board member  and president before not seeking re-election in April 2019) would mean a disregard by voters for the failed educational programs and misuse of school funds that occurred while she was in office.

But we will have to wait until Monday to know if Mercer voters did the right thing and elected qualified and honest candidates to their School and Town Boards.
